[Blast from the Past]

Last night, from all the song birds singing in my yard all night. There must have been a dozen of them. And the crickets and other night bugs. As I drifted off to sleep (with a perfect east wind drifting into my bedroom) I was struck by the various notes/sounds the different birds were making and how much it reminded me of a Haydn, Mozart or early Beethoven piece of music. It especialy reminded me of a woodwinds piece. (quintet or serenade or concerto even) Made me wonder: how much influence did similar nocturnal sounds have on those composers? They didn't have radio or recorded music to listen to, from which to draw inspiration. Nature had to be their primary source other than their imagination.
